Downers Grove Man Charged With Assault, Resisting Arrest

La Grange Park police respond to 2:46 a.m. call of man lying in the street.

A Downers Grove man was arrested June 2 after La Grange Park police said he got into an argument with them while they were investigating a traffic crash on the 700 block of Homestead Road.

Jeffrey E. Snider, 37, of the 6100 block of Pershing Avenue in Downers Grove, was charged with assault and resisting arrest.

Police received a call at 2:46 a.m. of a car crash on Homestead and one officer said when he arrived, Snider was lying in the middle of the street. Snider got to his feet and was talking to another officer, but was unsteady and had bloodshot and glassy eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

The car engine was running and Snider told an officer to shut it off, using an obscenity, police said. He then tried to enter the car on the passenger's side. An officer, worried he might be looking for a weapon, grabbed his shoulder and told him to step away.

Police said Snider then started swearing at the officer and gesturing as if he would hit him, jabbing his left fist at eye level.

He then tried to move around to the officer’s side where his gun was holstered, police said. The officer backed and turned away and told Snider to back away or he would be arrested for assault. Snider swore again and acted like he would strike him, police added.

Three officers took him down and handcuffed him. Snider was taken to Loyola Hospital for a cut to his head. Police said he was belligerent with the hospital staff before calming down.

Snider later told police he did not remember anything that happened on Homestead Road. He said he took two prescription drugs, Ambien and Trazoadone, at home and went to his motorcycle club in Lyons where he drank some beer. Police said he was apologetic when they recounted his actions.

No information was available June 14 from La Grange Park police on the initial traffic crash call that started the incident.
