According to the police report, Michael Birkenmeyer ran a red light in a 1998 Dodge at the intersection of Ogden and Kensington and hit the front of a Dodge Caravan that was facing south on Kensington.

The impact was so forceful that it caused the van, occupied by a 36-year-old woman and two 13-year-old girls, to hit a Toyota Prius on the opposite side of the intersection on Kensington, police said.

One of the teens was transported to La Grange Memorial Hospital with injuries.

Birkenmeyer told police he was delivering pizzas for Paisans Pizza and was trying to hurry to get back to work. He said he “forgot about the red light," police said. He passed field sobriety tests and was charged with possession of a controlled substance and running a red light.
