Contractor Reports Threats By La Grange Home Owner

Man punches another man in face by train station, but no complaints signed.

No arrests were made after a contractor told La Grange police April 11 that he was doing work at a residence on Harris Avenue a couple days earlier when the home owner threatened him and his workers, saying he owned a gun and would use it. The home owner also threw his tools at him. A police officer stood by at the home while the contractor retrieved his tools.  

Altercation near train station

A 36-year-old man reported another man punched him in the face at LaGrange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 7:31 a.m. April 11. The other man was found at Harris Avenue and LaGrange Road but no complaints were signed. An ambulance was requested for the victim, but the police shift report does not indicate he went to the hospital.

Watch for the men in black

A man dressed all in black was reported standing at 47th Street and Waiola Avenue, believed to be drunk  and yelling at passing vehicles at about 7:02 p.m. April 12. The man was brought home to Lyons.

Witnesses saw a man dressed all in black with a hooded sweatshirt, standing by a black car at Cossitt Avenue and Gilbert Avenue and possibly smoking marijuana at about 9:41 p.m. April 12. A police officer said he found just a man wearing a hoodie running around the track for exercise at the Lyons Township north campus.

Chalk art on fountain

Someone, possibly a child, drew hearts and other pictures with chalk on the fountain at La Grange Village Hall, 53 S. LaGrange Road, the Public Works Department reported at about 8:52 a.m. April 11 to police.  Damage was not permanent.

Checkbook found in store

Someone at the 7-Eleven store, 6 E. 47th St., reported at about 3:28 p.m. April 12 finding a checkbook on the floor in their store. La Grange police left a message for its owner.

Four ticketed for illegal parking at LT

La Grange police ticketed two cars at 5:03 p.m. April 12 for illegal parking on Cossitt Avenue near the north campus of Lyons Township High School, 100 S. Brainard Ave., then returned at 5:44 p.m. that day and ticketed two more illegally parked on Brainard Avenue and put warnings on other vehicles.

Suspicious tattooed man seem

A young man with tattoos was seen twice in a building on the 100 block of Calendar Avenue April 12 but no one there was sure why he was there. Police will be called if he is seen again.   

Kids playing ball in street shooed away

Someone called La Grange police at about 3:56 p.m. April 11 to report children playing baseball in the street on the 900 block of south Spring Avenue.  The caller said balls possibly were damaging cars and the children had no regard for oncoming traffic, nearly causing a few accidents. Police talked to the children and parents, who said the children will play only in the yards.

Fire department to the rescue

A 16-year-old La Grange boy was brought to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital by Fire Department ambulance at about 9:59 a.m. April 12 after he was having an asthma attack at the Vaughn building of Lyons Township High School north campus, Brainard and Cossitt avenues.

A woman refused transportation by ambulance at about 4:42 p.m. April 12 after she was reported to be sick and vomiting in medical offices in the 300 block of Burlington Avenue.

A La Grange ambulance went to a home on the 400 block of Sherwood Road in La Grange Park at about 2:51 p.m. April 12 to provide mutual aid for someone who had the cramps and was sweating. The police shift report did not indicate whether that person was brought to the hospital.

The Fire Department found burnt food in an apartment in the 0-100 block of south Sixth Avenue when it responded to a fire call at about 12:53 p.n. April 11.
