Car Set on Fire While La Grange Park Owner on Vacation

Here is a list of items taken from the La Grange/La Grange Park police blotter.

Someone set fire to a car parked in the driveway of a home on the 500 block of north Kensington Avenue between Aug. 1 and 9, according to La Grange Park police. The fire mostly was contained to the inside of the rear passenger area on the driver’s side, and extinguished itself, police said. The car owner found the damage on returning from vacation.

Daughter approached

A La Grange man reported his 14-year-old daughter was walking their dog at Elm Avenue and LaGrange Road at about 1:30 p.m. Aug. 15 when a man drove by slowly in a smaller, four-door, dark car and called out the name “Megan.” The father said that is not his daughter’s name. She called her mother on her cell  phone. The car continued east on Elm and police said they could not locate it.

VW vandalism

A Lyons woman reported that someone damaged the windshield of her 2005 Volkwagen Jetta between 8 p.m. Aug. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14 while it was parked in a village lot at Sixth Street and Harris Avenue.

Someone keyed a Volkswagen Passett parked in the lot next to Borders, 1 N. LaGrange Road, police learned at about 6:59 p.m. Aug. 14.

Purses found

A purse was found lying atop a car parked in front of a home on the 5300 block of south Kensington Avenue at about 3:32 a.m. Aug. 15. A neighbor said that it was her purse.

A purse was found in the bushes of a home on the 100 block of south LaGrange Road  at about 6:45 a.m. Aug. 13. Police will contact its owner.

Kid capers

Kids were reported in Stone Park, on Stone Avenue near Bell Avenue after hours at about 9:21 p.m. Aug. 15. Some kids ran when police arrived while others stayed and were warned. Officers confiscated two scooters and a bicycle.   

Party complaints

La Grange police responded to a complaint of a loud party on the 600 block of 10th Avenue at about 11:23 p.m. Aug. 13 and officers were told the partygoers would bring it inside. Police were called again at 11:49 p.m., shut down the party and stood by while partiers left. Police also ticketed five cars they said were in the nearby lot of Sedgwick Park, 10th Avenue and 48th Street, after hours.

After police responded to complaints of a loud party on the 800 block of south Sixth Avenue at about 12:51 a.m. Aug. 14, residents agreed to take the party inside.
