Car Drives Over Lawn, Knocks Down Garbage Cans

Police blotter reports a lawn mower was stolen and a gas can was found behind a restaurant.

A resident of the 800 block of 11th Avenue told La Grange police he was woken up at 2 a.m. May 12 by the noise of a car that he later  found had driven over his lawn and knocked over a neighbor’s garbage cans, strewing trash all over. Tire tracks were found on the lawn but no permanent damage was reported.

Lawn mower stolen

An old red Toro lawn mower was reported May 11 as stolen out of a backyard in the 200 block of Sawyer Avenue. The mower was noticed missing two days earlier. Its value was less than $300.

Gas can found outside business

A partially filled gas can with a rag hanging out the top was found at about 1:27 p.m. May 12 on the ground outside a trash container behind Noodles and Company, 1 E. Burlington Ave., according to La Grange police. A police officer brought the can to Public Works for proper disposal, police said.

Smoke, no fire

Heavy smoke was reported coming out of a backyard in the 1000 block of south La Grange Road at about 11:43 p.m. May 12, Police and firefighters responded and found the homeowner was burning rubbish. The resident was warned that a village ordinance prohibits burning refuse outside and the penalty ranges from $25 to $300 for each offense.

Two cross lowered railroad gates

Two La Grange residents were cited May 12 for walking across the Burlington Northern railroad tracks when the crossing gates were down. Steven Ramos was stopped at Kensington at about 5:52 p.m.; Sandra Gonzalez was seen at La Grange Road at about 4:01 p.m., according  to La Grange police.

Vehicle hit in McDonald’s lot

A driver reported his vehicle was struck by a landscaping truck at about 3:20 p.m. May 12 in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 100 N. La Grange Rd.

Kid calls

Youths found after hours in Gilbert Park, 41st Street and Gilbert Avenue, were sent on their way at about 9:16 p.m. May 12. A youth was reported to be racing a go-cart in the 700 block of south Seventh Avenue, near Seventh Avenue School, at about 8:40 p.m. May 12, but a police officer was unable to locate the person.

Two items found

A driver’s license was turned in at the La Grange police station, 304 W. Burlington Ave., at about 7:47 p.m. May 12, and a wallet was found at about 12:43 a.m. May 12 in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, 6 E. 47th  St. , and returned to its owner.
