Cab Driver Verbally Assaults Passenger, Phone Scam: Police Blotter

Cab Driver Complaint

A man claims that his cab driver verbally assaulted him and his friend around 3:52 a.m. after they complained that the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, police said. They asked to be let out near Sedgwick Park and the driver drove away. Police took note of the incident as a matter of record. The man said he would follow up with the cab company.

Scattering Skateboarders

Ten skateboarders were sent away from the Cossitt School playground around 3:04 p.m., police said.

Missing Tire Cap

A woman said she found one of her tire caps missing when she was parked in the 0-99 block of Cossitt after someone left a note on her car that said her tire pressure was low, police said. Police went with the woman to a gas station to check the pressure on her tire, but it was fine.

Argument on Washington

A man said he got in a verbal fight with a woman who scratched his car with keys in the 200 block of Washington Avenue around noon, police said. The woman denied scratching the car and said that the man had thrown rocks at her and her son. No charges were filed, but the incident was noted as a matter of record.

Food Fight

Two women got in a verbal fight around 12:54 p.m. after one of the woman told the other that she couldn’t eat certain things. One of the woman called police so the fight wouldn’t escalate, but all was quiet when officers arrived.

Phone Scam

A man received a phone call from someone from Epstein, Weinberg & Associates who threatened to have him arrested if he didn’t pay $1,000, police said. After searching for the phone number online, police discovered there were a number of complaints against the firm. Officers advised the man to file a complaint with the attorney general’s office, which appears to be in the process of investigating the business.
