Blotter: Boy 'Jumped,' Crack Pipe Found, Man Trapped in Elevator and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Boy Hit    

A 15-year-old La Grange boy told police March 6 that he was “jumped" at Sixth and Harris avenues by two other boys who were still in the area. Police picked up two boys. Police determined it was a mutual confrontation and no charges were placed, according to Patrick Fulla, investigator.

The boy told police he did not want any medical treatment, but was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. He got into a fight with his mother in the car in the hospital parking lot over the wait in the emergency room and left, according to police. They found him at Carriage and Edgewood avenues and his parents will handle the matter.

Home, Car Windows Broken

Someone threw a brick through a window of a home on the 700 block of Waiola Avenue and through the rear window of a car parked outside, La Grange Park police learned March 3.

Tools May Have Been Stolen

A possible theft of tools from a business on the 0-100 block of Beach Avenue was reported March 7 to La Grange police. Their value was $500 or less.

Girl Hit at LT Bus Stop

A mother reported at about 4:29 p.m. March 6 that her daughter was in an altercation earlier that day at a bus stop at the Lyons Township High School North Campus, 100 S. Brainard  Ave. The confrontation had been going on through the day and the school is handling the matter, police said. 

Man Trapped in Elevator

The La Grange Fire Department rescued a man who was stuck in an elevator at St. Francis Xavier School, 145 N. Waiola Ave., at about 10:55 a.m. March 5.

Boy in Park Worries Parents

La Grange police were called at about 3:53 p.m. March 7 for a male estimated at 6-foot-2 who was carrying a big stick while at the basketball courts at Waiola Park, 47th Street and Waiola Avenue, and was making nearby parents and kids uncomfortable. Police found a preteen special needs boy who they told to put down the stick.

Broken Crack Pipe Found

A glass crack pipe broken into two pieces was found on the sidewalk in front of a business on the 0-100 block of Calendar Avenue and disposed of by police March 6.

Car Window Broken   

Someone broke out the rear, driver-side window of a car parked on the 200 block of south Brainard Avenue between 12 and 9 a.m. March 5. Nothing had been taken out of the vehicle, La Grange  police said..

Man Has Chest Pains

A 39-year-old man with chest pains was taken by ambulance from Sixth and Burlington avenues to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 8:56 p.m. March 5.

Girl’s iPhone Found

La Grange police found a driver’s license in a case that helped them find a 17-year-old Western Springs girl who lost her white Apple iPhone near a car parked at Gilbert and East avenues March 5. She was to pick up the phone when she leaves school.

Man on Immigrations Violation Released

A 33-year-old Countryside man wanted for an immigrations violation—“deported felon”—was found inside a vehicle parked behind Corner Bakery, 39 N. La Grange Road, at about 2:19 a.m. March 7. An U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement official told police to release the man, unless he is wanted on local charges, and they will pick him up later. The man was ticketed for an improper turn and no valid driver’s license and faces an April 18 court date.

Woman Taken to Hospital

A 59-year-old Lyons woman who told La Grange police that she did not need medical attention after her car was rear-ended on the 100 block of east Ogden Avenue at about 4:10 p.m. March 1 was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after she complained about a headache. She said she was westbound when three cars in front of her came to a sudden stop, and her car was hit from the rear. Both vehicles drove to the nearby police station. The other driver was ticketed for failure to reduce his vehicle’s speed to avoid an accident.

Woman Gets 4 Tickets

Elizabeth R. Wimmer, 43, of Brookfield was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle when stopped by La Grange police at La Grange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 12:06 a.m. March 8.

Reckless Driver Seen

La Grange police said they could not find a reckless driver reported at LaGrange Road and Plainfield Road at about 4:32 p.m. March 6 and going in an unknown direction.

Hit-and-Run Told

One vehicle involved in an accident near La Grange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 6:46 p.m. March 6 pulled into the Pier One store north of the Metra tracks but the other car kept going, La Grange police were told.
