Blotter: Two Downtown La Grange Businesses Suspicious of Checks

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange police blotter.

Two downtown La Grange businesses reported to police on May 10 that a woman came in and wanted to purchase merchandise with a “starter” check that did not have preprinted personal information on it about the check writer.

One business manager refused the check for $600. An owner of a second business took a check for $122.51, but that bank said there was no money in the checking account and to try again the next day to cash it. No information was available May 14 from La Grange police on whether the two incidents were connected and whether fraud was involved.

The manager of the first business told police a female came in at about 5 p.m. on May 8, took clothes off a rack without looking at them, brought them to the counter and tried to pay with a check for $600 that was not imprinted with personal information. The manager refused  to accept them.

The customer was described as 20-30 years old with two tattoos on one arm. Police have the possible name of a 27-year-old Lombard resident.

In the second incident, another business reported May 10 that a female came into the store and wrote a check for $122.51 from a  new checking account without all the personal information printed on it. The owner took the check and brought it to the bank from where the account was opened. The bank said the account had no money in it but recommended returning the next day.
