Blotter: Traffic Violations, Suspicious Persons and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Two Berwyn Men Ticketed

Two Berwyn men were ticketed in separate incidents after traffic stops by La Grange Park police.

Sabino Urquizo was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no valid driver’s license after a collision at about 1:01 a.m. Dec. 9 on the 400 block of north La Grange Road involving a white 1999 Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicle he was driving. No information was available on a second vehicle.

The first police officer on the scene reported seeing Urquizo switch seats and go into the front passenger seat. Police said Urquizo said he was driving his father’s vehicle, did not have a valid driver’s license but, “was on his way to the DMV to get one” 

In the other incident, Adam P. Potasek, 26, was ticketed for one headlight and no valid driver’s license after a La Grange Park police officer reported seeing the black 2001 Hyundai he was driving  west on 31st Street at Homestead with only one working headlight at about 9 p.m. Dec. 8. Police said Potasek stated he was driving his girlfriend’s car and knew it had only one working headlight.

Girl Taken to Hospital

A 13-year-old girl who was having trouble breathing while in the gymnasium at Gurrie Middle School, 1001 S. Spring Ave., was taken by La Grange Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 8:58 a.m. Dec. 14.

Three Sent on Way

A woman age 21 and two men ages 22 and 23 were sent on their way after suspicious activity was reported to La Grange police on the 0-100 block of Washington Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Dec. 14.

Garbage Truck ‘Noisy’

La Grange police were called at about 6:23 a.m. Dec. 15 for a Waste Management truck making loud noise behind a building on the 200 block of west Harris Avenue. Police told the truck operators about the village’s noise ordinance.

Christmas Lights Cut

A resident of the 800 block of Brighton Lane reported Dec. 13 that Christmas lights had been cut for the second straight year.

Man ‘Crawling in Bushes’

A driver passing the 300 block of south Peck Avenue reported at about 7:13 a.m. Dec. 13 seeing a man crawling around in the bushes at one home. A resident reported being outside a few minutes earlier with the dog and nobody was there.

Light Broken

A light behind a building on the 100 block of west Burlington Avenue was reported Dec. 13 as having been broken for the last two or three weeks.

Man Watching Kids

A man was reported at about 1:52 p.m. Dec. 13 outside the senior center at 111 W. Harris Ave. watching children on the playground at Cossitt School. He was described as big in his 30s or 40s, wearing dark clothing and sunglasses, and carrying a small backpack. The witness delayed calling police because she did not have her cell phone with her.
