Blotter: Stalled Car Leads to Drug Charges, Police Control Baseball Bat Fight

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Stalled Car Brings Drug Charges

A 20-year-old La Grange man was arrested at about 11:46 p.m. Feb. 11 after La Grange police said they found cocaine on him while investigating a report the car he was riding in broke down at 47th Street and Bluff Avenue. The passenger was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had an active Cook County warrant for violating probation on a retail theft arrest, police said.

La Grange police investigating a report of people fighting in the street with baseball bats at East and Elm avenues at about 2:10 a.m. Feb. 12 found subjects on Congress Parkway on the Brookfield side of East Avenue. Police assisted controlling the fight and turned over the matter to Brookfield officers.  

Woman’s  Wallet Stolen

A La Grange woman told police at about 6:20 p.m. Feb. 20 that her wallet had been stolen. Its value was $500 or less.

Man Falls in Parking Garage

A 74-year-old man who suffered a head injury in a fall at the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., was taken by La Grange Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 10:47 a.m. Feb. 11.  His hometown was not listed.

Man Resists Ambulance Crew

A La Grange ambulance crew tried at about 7:07 p.m. Feb. 9 to transport a 56-year-old man reported suicidal at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave. The man refused to fasten a seat belt before being transported in the ambulance and was told he then would be put in handcuffs.  He then told an ambulance crew member that his wife is fat; the firefighter said he thought the man called him a slang name for a gay person. He continued being combative and almost fell out of the ambulance during the transfer process, police said. The man was brought to the emergency room of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, where he was briefly monitored to be sure he did not cause any more problems, police said.

Stolen Items Found

A La Grange man came Feb. 11 to the to report his stolen laptop and some mail had been recovered in Western Springs. Police did not list the date of the theft.

Four Bicycles Found

A 30-year-old La Grange man on Feb. 11 recovered his green Schwinn bicycle that had been picked up by police while apparently abandoned at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave.

A red and black Diamond Back men’s mountain bike was found at First United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cossitt Ave., and turned over to La Grange police at about 9:54 a.m. Feb. 10.

A pink Schwinn women’s 20-inch bicycle was found at 14 S. Ashland Ave. and turned over to La Grange police at about 10:17 a.m. Feb. 10.   

A bicycle found at about 2:26 a.m. in the middle of the field at Elm Park was picked up by La Grange police.

Father Finds Backpack of Beer

A La Grange father reported Feb. 10 that he found a backpack with beer in it in the bushes of his house and he believes it belongs to his son. The father said he will handle the issue.

Cicero Woman Ticketed

A Cicero woman who was driving her car north on La Grange Road near 29th Street with the bright lights on because her headlights were not working was ticketed by La Grange Park police at about 10:01 p.m. Jan.  22. Petra Giles, 29, was ticketed for failure to dim headlights and no valid driver’s license. Police said that, when stopped, she turned off the bright lights and activated the headlights to prove they did not work.

Driver Loses Control

A 23-year-old Willow Springs woman told La Grange police she lost control of her car and struck another vehicle between 16 and 22 W. Burlington Ave. between 6 and 8 p.m. Feb. 8. She was not ticketed.

Hit-and-Run Reported

A Brookfield woman told La Grange police that another vehicle backed into the front of her 2005 Jeep Liberty at Tilden and Burlington avenues and left at about 11:38 a.m. Feb. 8.
