Blotter: Ring Missing; Purse Thefts Tried and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Ring Missing Out of Home

A ring worth $15,000 was reported on May 26 as missing out of a home on the 400 block of Edgewood Avenue. A member of the cleaning staff is suspected, according to La Grange Park police.

Wallet Taken Out of Purse

A wallet was reported on May 26 as having been taken out of a purse that had been hung on the back of a chair  at Panera, on the 400 block of La Grange Rd., between 12:30 and 1 p.m. while its owner ate. Inside the wallet were a driver’s license, miscellaneous credit cards, insurance cards and other miscellaneous identification and gift cards, according to La Grange Park police. The loss was less than $500.

Purse Theft Tried in Restaurant

A man accompanied by two other people tried to steal a purse in Corner Bakery, 39 N. La Grange Road, at about 12:19 p.m. May 26. No loss was reported. The three left south on La Grange Road. The man was described as wearing a red shirt and blue jeans and carrying a red backpack. The other man was wearing a gray hat, blue shirt, black tie and gray slacks. No description was available of the woman.

Bike Items Stolen

Miscellaneous bicycle items, including a bike pump, tire repair kit and spare inner tubes, were taken on May 25 from the seat pouch of a bicycle on the 1600 block of Barnsdale Road. The time of theft is unknown as the bicycle was stored in a common area of the building where any of the residents or others had access to it, according to La Grange Park police.  Their value was less than $500.

Two Get Drug-Related Charges

Two Chicago men, ages 21 and 18, were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when stopped by La Grange police at La Grange Road and Brewster Avenue at about 1:56 a.m. May 26. Police did not disclose what items the two had.

Robbery Victim Getting Calls

A La Grange man told police May 26 that he had been the victim of a strong-armed robbery in Chicago and now was receiving threatening messages on his telephone. He will contact his telephone service carrier.

Two Flagging Down Vehicles

A man wearing shorts and a white T-shirt was reported flagging down vehicles for some unknown reason on 47th Street west of Brainard Avenue at about 12:59 a.m. May 29. La Grange police could not find him.

A man with long hair wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans was seen flagging down vehicles while walking south on the 600 block of south Kensington Avenue at about 11:49 a.m. May 26. La Grange police found him at 52nd Street and Kensington Avenue and said the 22-year-old La Grange Highlands man told them he had attended a party in Countryside the previous night and was walking home.

Vehicles Egged; One Person Caught

Four male teens in a car threw eggs at a vehicle at Waiola and Cossitt avenues the night of May 24. Police traced the car license number the next day to a home on south La Grange Road where a woman said her son had just got his driver’s license. This was his first time in the car and now, “it will be his last.” The boy was not home and the police report did not indicate whether he will be charged.

Police said the four may be connected to an incident on May 26 at Ogden and Kensington avenues where a Countryside man said his car was permanently damaged by thrown eggs.

Food Left on Stove, Burns

The La Grange Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 0-100 block of Waiola Avenue at about 11:40 p.m. May 26 and found food left on a stove that was burning.
