Blotter: Holiday Walk Incidents and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Holiday Walk Incidents

A little boy wearing a puffy coat and who was lost at Calendar Avenue and La Grange Road at about 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 was reunited by a police officer with his parents during the Holiday Walk in the La Grange Business District.

A La Grange man reported at about 7:58 p.m. that he lost a black-leather cardholder containing four credit cards in the business district during the Holiday Walk. He will cancel the credit cards.

A large group of teens was reported going inside the Walgreen’s, 2 N. LaGrange Road, walking around and blocking the front door so customers could not enter at about 7:53 p.m. Dec. 3. They were sent on their way.

La Grange police that night also dispersed youths at Walgreens at about 8:52 p.m. and 9:31 p.m.; at Starbucks, 38 S. La Grange Road, at about 9:14 p.m.; and McDonalds, 100 N. LaGrange Road, at about 9:33 p.m.

Officers also helped a “couple” people at Ashland and Cossitt avenues find their cars at about 8:49 p.m. The cars were in the Harris Bank lot.

Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrent

A La Grange Park woman was arrested Dec. 1 when La Grange Park police, investigating a call to her home, found she was wanted on a bond-forfeiture warrant from Du Page County on an original retail theft charge.

Bond was set at $5,000 for Elisha Sperando, of 513 Barnsdale Road., and she faces a Jan. 2 court date at the Wheaton courthouse. 

No charges were placed in the original call at about 1:57 a.m. that brought police to her residence, police said.

Two Tickets Issued

Andres Mendez, 39, of Chicago was ticketed for failure to yield and no valid driver’s license after his 1999 Honda Accord collided with another vehicle at 31st Street and La Grange Road at about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28, according to La Grange Park police.

Driver ‘Doesn’t Yield’

A 27-year-old Bridgeview man, Itzel Lopez, was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left after the right front of his 2000 Mitsubishi collided at Ogden Avenue and La Grange Road with the front of a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by a 62-year-old Lombard man at about 9:42 p.m. Dec. 1, according to La Grange police.

Cookie-sellers Suspicious

A resident of the 900 block of south Spring Avenue called La Grange police at about 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 to complain of males walking down the street selling something. Police found the sellers were students at Gurrie Middle School selling cookies for the wrestling team and said there was, “no problem.”

Warrant Found

During a traffic stop at Cossitt Avenue and La Grange Road at about 9 p.m. Dec. 4, La Grange police arrested Allyn Cox, 54, of La Grange after they said they found he was wanted on a McHenry County warrant for failure to appear in court on a traffic charge. His bond was set at $5,000.

Wire Down

The La Grange Fire Department and ComEd responded at about 2:14 a.m. Dec. 4 to a call of a wire down and possible transformer explosion at Cossitt Avenue and Willow Springs Road.  

Van Vandalized

The windows of a van belonging to Second Baptist Church and parked at 26 Washington Ave. were broken during the night, La Grange police learned Dec. 3.

Stop Hitting Yourself

La Grange police said they could not find a man in his 50s who was reported punching himself in the head at La Grange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 2:58 p.m. Dec. 3. He wore a blue coat, blue jeans and a blue and yellow scarf.

Hit-and-run Reported

Minor damage was reported to an Elk Grove Village man’s vehicle hit by a silver pickup truck driven by a teen girl in the parking lot of Lyons Township High School north campus, 10 S. Brainard Ave., at about 3:32 p.m. Dec. 3. The truck fled, police said.

Boy Dislocates Shoulder

A 14-year-old boy who dislocated his shoulder in the Vaughn Building at the Lyons Township High School North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., was taken by Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 9:49 a.m. Dec. 3.

Gas Smell reported

The La Grange Fire Department responded at about 1:13 p.m. Dec. 3 to a report of a strong odor of natural gas on the 400 block of south Catherine Avenue.

Vehicle Egged

A vehicle parked on the 500 block of south Kensington Avenue was hit by thrown eggs the previous night, police learned Dec. 3.
