Blotter: Harassment Alleged, Driver Gets 5 Tickets and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange Park police blotter.

Harassment Alleged

Jerry M. McDavid, 49, of 523 50th Ave. in Bellwood was charged with violating an order of protection and two counts of telephone harassment after La Grange Park police said he continually called a former girlfriend and father of their daughter at the mother’s workplace at a business in the village.

A witness told police McDavid had been repeatedly calling the workplace, which had been harassing to other employees as well. He had been also calling her at home and made allegations about her that the employer found to be false, police said. In March, the woman got an order of protection.

On Dec. 21 he called and threatened to break all the windows at her home, police said. The victim said the harassment at work compromised her employment because he was threatening other employees.

Employees said he had called and said this is Jerry McDavid. McDavid gave a statement to police that he had not called the workplace, but his daughter called a few times to talk to her mother.

Driver Gets 5 Tickets

A Westmont man received five tickets, including two felony charges, after he was stopped by La Grange Park police at about 12:08 a.m. Dec. 20.

Jeffrey C. Lewis, 45, of 23 W. Oakley, was charged with felony driving while his license is revoked; felony driving under the influence; driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content that was .144; no license plate light; and no insurance.

A police officer driving west on 31st Street saw a car in front that did not have the rear license plate illuminated. The officer activated the squad car siren but said the other car slowed and changed to the inside lane without signaling. That car then turned south on the 1000 block of Homestead Road and entered the parking lot of the 7-Eleven.

That driver got out of the car and started to walk to the front door of the store, police said. The officer ordered the man, later identified as Lewis, back into his car. He hesitated and then complied.

Lewis told the officer he did not stop because he did not think he was the one being pursued. He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, police said.

Two Vehicles Broken Into

Nothing was taken when two unlocked vehicles parked overnight in a driveway on the 1400 block of Ostrander Avenue were gone through, La Grange Park police learned Dec. 24. The contents of glove compartments were strewn on the floors of the vehicles.
