Blotter: Drunken Incidents, Accidents and Noise Complaints

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

A Mean Homeless Man

A homeless man who was mean while panhandling was reported near the McDonalds, 100 N. La Grange Road, at about 9:27 p.m. March 17. Police found other homeless people leaving the restaurant at the time but could not find the person who generated the complaint.

A girl wearing a green tank top and blue shorts who was bleeding from her face and appeared intoxicated from alcohol or drugs was reported between the gym and school building at the Lyons Township High School north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., at about 4:24 p.m. March 17. A 16-year-old girl was found at Cossitt and Park and taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.

A 91-year-old woman who fell in the lot at McDonalds, 100 N. LaGrange Road, and had a possible head injury was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 10:48 a.m. March 17.

A 31-year-old woman who said she was feeling dizzy and was in the nurse’s office at the Lyons Township High School north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 3:46 p.m. March 16.

‘Drunks’ Entering Car

Three males wearing green shorts and who seemed intoxicated were trying to get into a car at Hillgrove and Springs avenues at about 8:32 p.m. March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. The vehicle last was seen going north toward Ogden Avenue, but police could not find it.

Homeless Drunk, Noisy in Park

Drunk and noisy homeless people were reported in Kiwanis Park, La Grange Road and Maple Avenue, at about 3:20 p.m. March 16 and sent on their way.

Park Area Not Empty

A caller claimed March 15 that a park area at 200 Washington Avenue was empty  at about 7:13 p.m. because of the smell of marijuana in the area, but an officer found kids playing and families there.

IDs Found

Identification and credit cards with a La Grange address and money found at a deli in Westchester were given March 15 to La Grange police and turned over to their owner.

Fire Department Helps Out

The La Grange Fire Department provided mutual aid for an electrical smell reported in a basement of a home on the 700 block of north Catherine Avenue in La Grange Park at about 9:17  p.m. March 18.

Noise Complaints

Police were called at about 11:05 p.m. March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, to Palmer Place, 56 S. La Grange Road, after a band had finished and disc jockey was starting and warned they would shut things down if any more noise complaints came in. The restaurant promised to close a tent to reduce noise. Police returned 33 minutes later and were told the music would be turned down.   

Woman Charged With DUI

A Willow Springs woman was charged with driving under the influence and two other traffic violations when La Grange Park police said she ran away after her 2007 Pontiac G6 struck a vehicle parked on the 400 block of Edgewood Lane at about 3:37 a.m. March 10. Amelia L. Lambert, 31, of 9072 Archer Ave. also was ticketed for failure to report damage to an unattended car and leaving the scene of an accident.  Police said her car in the middle of the street, was unoccupied and had the key in the ignition, and they found her hiding behind a brown fence at Edgewood and Richmond avenues. Her speech was slurred, she had alcohol on her breath and she admitted drinking, police added.

Both Drivers Injured

Both drivers were taken by Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after their cars collided at East and Ogden avenues at about 12:20 p.m. March 15.  Transported was Victor Reyes, 50, of Chicago, who was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left and a 55-uear-old Summit man. Police said Reyes’ 1998 Ford F-150 was going west out of an alley when the vehicle hit the driver’s side of a southbound 2009 Nissan Sentra.   

Drivers Reckless

Countryside police found a green Buick, with front-end damage and grass stuck to the bottom of the vehicle,  at Joliet Road and Brainard Avenue and a driver possibly under the influence of drugs after a report of a possible DUI driver going south on LaGrange Road at Cossitt Avenue in La Grange at about 1:40 a.m. March 18.

La Grange police said they could find a reckless driver reported speeding on the 800 block of Brighton at about 10:02 p.m. March 18.

A driver of a Ford Mustang who was, “all over the road,” was going west on Ogden Avenue at LaGrange Road at about 8:08 p.m. March 15.

Hit-and-Run Reported

A woman reported March 17 that her 2006 Jeep Cherokee had been hit in village Parking Lot 3, at Harris and Madison avenues, by a vehicle that fed.

Vehicle ‘Hits Bicyclists’

A La Grange father told police March 15 that his daughter and her friend were on their bicyclists at East and Cossitt avenues when they were hit by a white or gray van, driven by a man wearing sunglasses, that may have been a taxi. No more information was available March 19.

U-Turn Attempt Causes Accident

An Indiana woman was ticketed March 10 after La Grange police said she was going south on East Avenue at about 6:54 p.m., tried to make a U-turn at Lincoln and struck the passenger side of  a vehicle in the left lane she said must have been in her blind spot. Melina Marini, 20, of Whiting was ticketed for failure to reduce her speed to avoid an accident.

Traffic Surveys Continue

La Grange police continued their traffic surveys at Ogden and Ashland avenues –issuing 16 compliance tickets March 16, five tickets March 15 and 12 state tickets March 14. That intersection is one of the top three corners for crashes in La Grange with vehicles trying to go straight across Ogden Avenue or turn left when only right turns are  permitted from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., said Police Chief Michael Holub. The La Grange Police Department is using a Cook County Judicial Advisory Council grant for the surveys, he said.
