Blotter: Beer Thieves Caught, Busy Building and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

Beer Thieves Found

Two males who had stolen beer out of a store on the 5300 block of La Grange Road and rode away on bicycles were found by La Grange police on the 500 block of south La Grange Road at about 4:24 a.m. Nov. 24 and turned over to Countryside police.

Police responded at about 7:31 p.m. Nov. 25 of a woman outside a building screaming that a friend had raped her, but said they did not have enough evidence to prosecute that man, 35.  The woman was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.

That man also reported at about 2 p.m. that a debit card had been taken out of his unlocked vehicle during the night. When police arrived, they said he slammed the door on them, saying he did not want their help. The case is not active, police said Nov. 28.  The girlfriend also called police, saying the man and his parents were in their apartment stealing items from her.

Drug Charges

A 16-year-old  Hodgkins boy was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia on Nov. 23 in La Grange. He was turned over to his parents and will go through the juvenile court system, police said.

Kid Behaving Badly

After not being allowed by a clerk at the 7- Eleven store, 6 E. 47th St., to use the washroom at about 8:51 p.m. Nov. 23, a 15-year-old Burr Ridge boy urinated outside, La Grange police said. The police report said it apparently was an emergency and the boy was not under the influence and indicated he was not charged.

DUI Charge

Javier Martinez-Millan, 40, of Greenville, S.C. was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol and three other unidentified traffic violations, when La Grange police stopped his car at Brewster Avenue and La Grange Road at about 12:41 a.m. Nov. 28.  His bond was set at $3,000 and his court date is Dec. 14.

No Loss in Identity Theft

A resident of the 1000 block of south La Grange Road reported Nov. 25 that someone was using her credit card number and made two purchases totaling less than $60. There was no loss, police said.

Female Heard Screaming

A caller reported a female screaming at Cossitt and Ashland avenues, possibly near Cossitt Avenue School, at about  6:09 p.m. Nov. 27. Police could not locate her.

Vandals Strike

Someone cut the Christmas light wires and put a garbage bag of yard waste on the driveway of a home on the 700 block of south Stone Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 5 p.m. Nov. 26.

A home on the 900 block of Sixth Avenue was reported egged again Nov. 25 and someone left coal on the porch. A vehicle was seen leaving the area.

A house on the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue was hit by eggs at about 2 a.m. Nov. 25 after having been vandalized about a week earlier, police were told.

Bike Lost-and-Found

A blue bicycle was found abandoned on the walking path at Sedgwick Park, 10th Avenue and 48th Street,  at about 7:49 p.m. Nov. 26 and turned over to La Grange police.

A men’s red and black Trek 930 mountain bike was reported stolen at about 6:50 p.m. Nov. 25 near the La Grange Theatre, Cossitt Avenue and la Grange Road, where it possibly was left unlocked, police said. Its value was less than $300.

Three mountain bikes–blue/yellow, purple and red colors- and a motorized scooter, all unlocked, were stolen out of the yard of a home on the 300 block of east Calendar Avenue over the past 1-1/2 months,  La Grange police learned Nov. 25. The homeowner was not sure of their value, having purchased them all at a garage sale.

People Suspicious

A man wearing a tan coat and Bears cap was reported looking into cars in the parking lot of Walgreens, 2 N. La Grange Road, at about 1:19 p.m. Nov. 2. He last was seen walking away southbound.  

A 41-year-old La Grange man was seen at about 9:44 p.m. Nov. 24 taking items out of a donation box at St Cletus, 700 W. 55th St. Police told him to, “receive the proper services,” and sent him on his way.

A caller told La Grange police that two men in a white car were circling the block at about 10:29 a.m. Nov. 24, parked on the 10 block of north Catherine Avenue and looked at a house. They left and were stopped by police who said the two claimed to work for ComEd and were looking for 151 Bell, an address that does not exist.

Street Light Hit

A green vehicle hit a street light on the 400 block of Edgewood Avenue and took off at about 12:05 a.m. Nov. 26, police were told.

Wrong Button Hit

La Grange police were called at about 4:54 a.m. Nov. 26 on the second floor north stairway of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., for an alarm. Video surveillance showed a man who appeared drunk had pushed the button thinking it would open a door, police said.

Bullet Casing Found

A shell casing for a .45 caliber bullet was found in the alley on the 100 block of Washington and turned over to La Grange police at about 6:25 p.m. Nov. 23.
