Blotter: Garbage Dumped, Pesty Kids and New Year's Fireworks

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

Garbage Dumped on Parkway

A resident of the 400 block of Sixth Avenue reported at about 11:18 a.m. Jan. 1 that five bags of garbage had been dumped in the last half hour on his parkway. Public works was called to pick it up.

La Grange police said they could not find three kids reportedly throwing things in the street at Goodman and Gilbert avenues at about 12:23 a.m. Dec. 31 and creating a traffic hazard.

New Year’s Fireworks Heard

Fireworks were reported Jan. 1 on the 200 block of Sawyer Avenue at about 12:17 a.m., and at Cossitt and Seventh Avenues for about 45 minutes at about 12:43 a.m.; and Dec. 30 on the 500 block of south Waiola from three callers at about 12:06 a.m.

In the last incident, a haze of smoke was seen on the 500 block of south Stone Avenue and two males, including one about 6 feet tall and wearing a gray hoodie with stripes, were reported.

Parking Meter Hit

A parking meter was found bent, possibly from being hit by a car, in front of the La Grange police station, 304 W. Burlington, at about 7:34 p.m. on Jan. 2. A La Grange man walked into the police station at about 2:16 p.m. that same day to report his car hit a parking meter on Burlington Avenue, west of Ashland Avenue. The police reports did not indicate whether the meters in the two reports were the same.  

Hit-and-Run Reported

A 2001 Honda driven by a 79-year-old Willow Springs man was struck on La Grange Road about 45 feet south of 47th Street at about 11:19 a.m. Dec. 27 by a pickup truck that fled, police said.

Wallet Found

A wallet belonging to a 16-year-old La Grange Park boy was returned to him after it was found  at the La Grange Road train station, 25 W. Burlington Ave., at about 9:23 p.m. Jan. 1.

Purse Missing

A La Grange woman reported at about 4:09 p.m. Dec. 30 that her purse was missing and it may have been lost or stolen in Trader Joe’s, 25 N. La Grange Rd. She said she checked her home and did not find it.
