Berwyn Man's Car Rear-Ends Auto Waiting to Turn

Hit-and-run, other accidents reported to La Grange police.

A Berwyn man received three traffic tickets after his 1993 Honda Accord car could not stop in time to avoid rear-ending a Berwyn woman’s 1999 Chevrolet Malibu that had slowed down to turn from westbound Ogden onto Burlington Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. Feb. 17, according to La Grange police. Alonso Salas, 21, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no valid driver’s license and no proof of insurance.

A 24-year-old Brookfield woman reported she went out to her 2010 Hyundai Elantra parked in the 4700 block of Willow Springs Road at about 2:29 p.m. Feb. 17 and found the left side apparently had been hit by a vehicle that fled.

An 82-year-old Stickney woman told La Grange police that another car backed into her vehicle when the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad gates went down before them at about 10:59 a.m. Feb. 17 at 47th Street and East Avenue. Very minor damage was reported to each vehicle, police said. The two vehicle owners said they will settle the matter between themselves.

A 17-year-old La Grange boy told La Grange police that his car struck an unoccupied parked vehicle while he was backing out of a parking space in a private lot of Lyons Township High School’s north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave. He went home and when he came back, the other vehicle was gone.

An 81-year-old La Grange Park woman was ticketed after La Grange police said her 2007 Buick, crossing Ogden Avenue while going south on Ashland Avenue, was hit by a 19-year-old  Westchester man’s 2006 Jeep Wrangler, which was going east. Camille Vanek was ticketed for failure to yield at an intersection, according to La Grange police.

Ashley Ann Smith, 20, of La Grange Park, was ticketed for driving while her license is suspended and no proof of insurance during a traffic stop at about 8:15 a.m. Feb. 17 at 47th Street and East Avenue, according to La Grange police.

No tickets were issued after the front of an Orland Park man’s GMC van struck the rear of a Brookfield man’s car at about 5:21 p.m. Feb. 17 at 47th Street and East Avenue, according to La Grange police.
