Bellwood Man Charged With Domestic Battery in La Grange Park

Incident reported at girlfriend's apartment.

A Bellwood man was arrested March 29 after his girlfriend reported to La Grange Park police that he went to her La Grange Park apartment, had a gun and threatened to kill himself. He later told police he was trying to make her hurt emotionally the way he was hurting.

Edward Grandberry, 29, of 514 Geneva Ave., was charged with one count of domestic battery. The victim was to get an order of protection against him.

When officers arrived at the girlfriend's apartment at about 7:27 a.m., Grandberry was gone. Police contacted Bellwood police, who notified his mother that Grandberry was to contact the La Grange Park department. The Bellwood man arrived at about 10:45 a.m. at the La Grange Park station, where he told officers he was not serious when he threatened to kill himself.

The victim and he were arguing about their relationship and the accused allegedly said he gave up a relationship with a street gang for her.

Grandberry told police he did not have a gun, but instead a scraper and hook he uses as a hospital maintenance man. But, he later told police he threw a revolver into Salt Creek. He said he bought the revolver at a flea market and that it was inoperable.
