Update: Store Owner Offers Reward for Stolen Artwork

The La Grange Business Association's annual summer art display took a hit when one of the bag-toss sets was stolen from in front of Lilett chocolate shop.

Updated Aug. 6

Karen Gula, owner of Lilett Candies Gourmet Chocolate Shop, is offering a $100 reward for anyone who can find the stolen summer art display in front of the La Grange business.

Since returning from a trip, Gula said she hasn't heard any leads or new information about the boards, which were stolen on the Fourth of July.

"It was all for charity," she said of the boards, which will be auctioned off Sept. 6. "I thought the subject matter (the American flag) would have done well at the auction."

The La Grange Business Association is seeking help in finding a set of the summer bag toss games that was a part of its annual summer art display.

The art, titled "Stars and Stripes Forever," was reported missing over the Fourth of July weekend, and the LGBA announced the theft at its meeting last week in hopes that someone would come forward with information.

"They were a beautiful set of boards painted in an American flag design in honor of veterans, making the timing of this theft even more unfortunate," LGBA director Nancy Cummings said in an email.

Karen Gula, owner of Lilett Candies Gourmet Chocolate Shop, reported them missing from in front of her store that weekend. One board is covered in stars and the other in stripes, and employees of the store were the artists.

The art display this year features boards for the popular bag toss game. They have been secured to light posts or signs with bicycle lock-type cables, Cummings said.

Each set of boards will be auctioned off for local charities Friday, Sept. 6, at Village Hall in La Grange.
