A Police Officer is Your Friend, But Maybe Not the Right One

Here are a few items from the La Grange police blotter.

A La Grange police officer said he was flagged down at about 3:55 a.m. April 11 by two men on the 300 block of Calendar Avenue behind the police station. The men, ages 31 and 25, said they were waiting for a friend to pick them up and thought the officer’s car was driven by their friend.   

Possible theft attempt

A suspicious person was seen in the yard of a home in the 800 block of S. Kensington Avenue. at about 8:49 p.m. April 9, according to La Grange police. No one was found in the area.

These are jobs for… Public Works

A La Grange police officer found a black post at the La Grange Road train station, 25 W. Burlington Ave. The post was cut off at the base and placed on a walkway at about 4:52 a.m. April 11. The police officer put the post out of the way and notified La Grange Public Works.

Street signs were missing on a concrete post on the northwest corner of 50th Street and La Grange Road at about 5:23 a.m. April 11. Public Works was notified.

A pothole was reported at about 4:22 p.m. April 10 in the 1000 block of S. Waiola Avenue. Public Works was notified and put a sawhorse over the pothole.

Those kids!

A La Grange police officer shooed away 15 kids who were at the top of the parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., at about 3:41 p.m. April 10.   

Police were called because kids were riding motorized scooters in the area of the 600 block of S. Ninth Avenue at about 4:29 p.m. April 10. An officer said the owner has three scooters and they have been brought in for the day.

A “large” group of kids were refusing to leave McDonald’s, 100 N. LaGrange Rd., police learned at about 9:49 p.m. April 9.  An officer at the scene said the crowd was disbursing.

Kids who were skateboarding by the fountain at La Grange Village Hall, 53 S. LaGrange Rd., at about 1:43 p.m. April 9 were warned by police.

Where are they?

Someone in a red Chevrolet was seen at about 6:02 p.m. April 8 pouring Seagram’s Seven whiskey into a glass of cola in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, 6 E. 47th St. The occupant was gone when police arrived.

Brookfield police got a call at about 12:20 a.m. March 11 from “George,” who said he was at the Metra station at LaGrange Road, in extreme pain and wanted a ride to the hospital. La Grange police said they could not find him.

An “older” woman who “appeared confused” was seen walking in the middle of LaGrange Road between 47th Street and Plainfield Road at about 3:37 p.m. April 8. Police could not find her.

Found: Wallet, coat, cell phone, duffel bag

A coat and wallet left behind by a customer at Palmer’s Place, 56 S. LaGrange Rd., at about 4:19 p.m. April 9 were reunited with their owner, a La Grange Park woman.

A cell phone found April 8 at LaGrange Road and Burlington Avenue was turned over to La Grange police the next day and its owner, a La Grange man, was able to pick it up.

A LaGrange Public Works employee found a red duffel bag containing clothing at the Stone Avenue train station of Metra and turned it in to police at about 11:25 a.m. April 8.   

Bickering couple sent on their way

A 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman who were arguing at about 12:31 a.m. April 11 at McDonald’s, 100 N. LaGrange Rd., were sent on their way by La Grange police.

Loud noise, no explanation

A woman living on the 200 block of Ninth Avenue reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a flash of light toward houses behind her home at about 9:41 a.m. April 9. A police officer said he found nothing smoking, no wires down and no evidence of a transformer exploding.

Fire department to the rescue

The La Grange Fire Department provided mutual aid for a fire call in the3700 block of Grand Avenue in Brookfield at about 1:45 p.m. April 9, and an ambulance for an accident at Ogden and Oak avenues in Brookfield at about 10:52 a.m. April 9.
