87-Year-Old Man Outwits Scam Artist Claiming to be His Grandson

The caller said he needed money after getting into a car accident.

A grandfather outsmarted a scam artist last week after a man claiming to be his grandson called and said he had been in a car accident, La Grange police said.

The caller dialed the 87-year-old man on July 3 and said he needed $870 wired from Walmart to fix his car, police said.

The grandfather withdrew money from the bank but then thought twice and called his son, who police said told him there hadn’t been any accident.
