Blotter: Problems with Homeless, a Stolen Purse Found and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

A Westchester woman reported Jan. 4 that a vagrant had opened her car door while she was sitting in the vehicle in a village parking lot near Burlington and Bluff avenues. She told La Grange police that the man previously has asked her for money. He was described as being in his 60s and wearing a beige coat, dress pants and athletic shoes.

Woman Feels Threatened

A La Grange woman reported at about 5:07 p.m. Jan. 4 that she was in the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., when a man jumped out at her from behind a pillar. He and another male also ran behind her car as she was pulling out of a parking space. The two ran into a stairwell, but were gone when police arrived.

Stolen Purse Found

A La Grange man Jan. 4 turned in a purse that a La Grange Highlands woman had reported stolen out of her car parked at Bemis Woods. Still inside were her drive’s license and two credit cards. The finder discovered the purse within blocks of the La Grange police station, 304 W .Burlington Ave. The owner was to pick up her purse  there.

Windows Broken

The storefront window of a chiropractor’s office on the 500 block of south La Grange Road was found broken at about 8:06 p.m. Jan. 4. A boardup service was called.

A window was found broken at First Baptist Church, 20 N. Ashland Ave., at about 10:58 a.m. Jan. 3.

Man, 77, Falls

A 77-year-old La Grange man who fell at Calendar and Ashland avenues was taken by ambulance to Hines Veterans Administration Hospital at about 1:16 p.m. Jan. 3.

Panhandling Request

Workers at a store on the 100 block of Calendar Avenue reported at about 3:09 p.m. Jan. 3 that an older man wearing a black coat had come in with a sign asking for money. Police found the man, who said he would take the train back to the city.

Garage Egged

A garage on the 300 block of Blackstone Avenue was egged the previous night, La Grange police learned on Jan. 3.
