$1K in Bad Checks Paid to La Grange Businesses; Home Burglary Reported

Officers find marijuana, drug paraphernalia on driver during traffic stop; La Grange man arrested for unlawful firearm possession goes to court.

Verlita K. Harvey, 46, of Chicago was arrested March 11 for theft by deceptive practices after La Grange police said she wrote 19 checks totaling $1,300 on a closed bank account to pay for items at three La Grange stores during December.

Christopher Wisniewski, 19, of Westchester was arrested for possession of cannabis, less than 30 grams, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after La Grange police said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle during a traffic stop at Ogden and Madison avenues at about 1:07 a.m. March 13. 

Electronic items were stolen during a burglary of a home in the 300 block of Bluff Avenue, which was reported at about 5:13 a.m. March 12 to La Grange police.

David Boxler, 32, of La Grange appeared March 14 in the 5th Municipal District courthouse in Bridgeview after he was charged with misdemeanor possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition, both without a firearm owner’s identification card, after he had been arrested last month while La Grange police were serving a search warrant on his home in the 0-100 block of south LaGrange Road.

Oak Brook police were looking March 11 for a car that might have been involved in three or four thefts in their community. La Grange police did not find it.

Indiana license plates were stolen off a car parked in the 100 block of south Sixth Avenue, La Grange police learned March 11.  

A La Grange woman told police March 11 she lost her license plates at an unknown location.

La Grange police  “shagged away” 11 or 12 youths in front of Village Hall, 56 S. LaGrange Road, at about 11:21 a.m. March 11 and a group of youths in front of 21 S. LaGrange Road at about 4:46 p.m. March 13.

A wallet found lying in the street at 47th Street and LaGrange Road at about 10:16 a.m. March 11 was returned to its owner, an Indian Head Park man.

La Grange police are trying to contact a Hodgkins woman whose wallet containing $638 and credit cards was found outside a restaurant in the 100 block of west Burlington Avenue at about 1:14 p.m. March 12.

The La Grange Fire Department provided mutual aid responding to a report of the smell of smoke at St. Micheal's Lutheran Church, 500 E. 31st St., at about 1:54 p.m. March 13, and a fire alarm at 4750 Vernon in McCook at about 11:57 p.m. March 12.
