Blotter: The Sky is Falling, Toppled Toilets and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange police blotter.

It Fell From the Sky

A resident of the 200 block of Ninth Avenue reported hearing a loud noise and seeing something fall from the sky at about 8:18 a.m. April 7. Police determined a transformer blew and the resident called ComEd.

Woman Falls at Church

An 83-year-old woman was taken by  Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 8:48 a.m. April 9.  She fell on the stairs at First Presbyterian Church, 150 S. Ashland Ave., and complained of back pain.

Portable Toilet Toppled

A portable toilet was knocked over on a construction site on the 0-100 block of north Spring Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 9:59 a.m. April 7.  La Grange Public Works employees lifted it back up and the toilet was put inside a gate for safety.

Can’t Shut Down Party

La Grange police went at about 11:04 p.m. April 5 to a home on the 0-100 block of north Stone Avenue for a complaint of a loud teenage party. Police said they could not contact anyone in the home and the occupants refused to open the door.

Disturbance Downtown

A man was reported standing in front of Village Hall, 53 S. La Grange Road, yelling and throwing rocks at passers-by at about 9:45 p.m. April 6. The man was gone when police arrived but was found in the nearby parking garage where he was yelling and threw a bag with a bottle inside at someone. The man, who is homeless, was told to stop yelling and throwing items at people.

Dogs on the Loose

A medium-sized brown dog was reported at 3:09 p.m. April 8 on the loose at 48th Street and Eighth Avenue. A La Grange police officer reported seeing that same dog at about 6:54 p.m. on the 600 block of Eighth Avenue, but said the dog almost bit him and he could not get close.

A brown dog running loose was reported at about  11:21 a.m. April 6 on the 800 block of Ninth Avenue, at about 7:55 a.m. that same day on 50th Street from 11th Avenue and at about 7:02 a.m. April 8 on the 700 block of Eighth Avenue. In the last case, the dog was described as a pit bull. Police did not indicate whether it was the same dog in all the incidents, but did say a dog had been running loose in that area for several days. 

No Drugs in Park, But a Ticket

A blue Toyota Camry and what looked to the caller like a drug transaction happening inside the vehicle at 10th Avenue and 48th Street was reported to La Grange police at about 8:35 p.m. April 8. Police did not find anyone inside the vehicle but gave a compliance ticket to one person for being in Sedgwick Park after hours.  

Bike Found

A bicycle found in Spring Park, 53rd Street and Spring Avenue, was turned over to La Grange police April 7. The type of bicycle was not indicated in the report.
