Obituary: Catherine L. Pozen, 81

Catherine Pozen T.O. Carm., 81. Born July 13, 1931, died May 4, 2013, recently a resident of Plymouth Place Retirement Community. Loving mother of eight, Mary Duff, Denise Pozen, Margaret Kielczynski (La Grange Police Sergeant "Sarge Marge"), Norbert Pozen Jr., Joseph Pozen, Jeffrey Pozen, James Pozen and Stephen Pozen. Beloved grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of seven.

A devoted member of the Lay Carmelite Order, she was a generous missionary and found great satisfaction ministering to the poor. Gifted with a beautiful voice she was a member of the choir that performed for Blessed John Paul II at his Chicago mass in 1979 and again at the Vatican. A retired railroad employee, she volunteered with local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops. Cathy was also a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a trained chef who enjoyed baking cakes and pastries. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St. Countryside. A funeral mass will be held on May 9 at 11:15 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 5005 S. Wolf Rd., Western Springs. Private Internment at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines.
