ESCC, IHSA Honors for Nazareth Student-Athletes

Nazareth Academy Celebrates an Outstanding Weekend for Student-Athletes

Coming on the heels of golfer Andrew Dobis’ 10th place finish in State Competition, Nazareth student-athletes across multiple sports celebrated an outstanding weekend of accomplishments October 25-27.

Girls Tennis: Alexia (Lexie) Petrovic ’14 of Burr Ridge earned All State Honors placing 7th in the State in Tennis Singles competition. This culminates 4 great years of Tennis for Lexie which has included top finishes in Singles and Doubles play during her high school career.

Cross Country: Congratulations to the Nazareth Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams. Both teams qualified for IHSA Sectional competition on Saturday.  The Girls Team scored an impressive season low score of 27 to win the Regional Championship. Claire Ramsey ’17 of Clarendon Hills, Gianna Levato ’16 of Willow Springs, and Emily Beedie ’14  of Western Springs all earned Regional Medals placing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. The Boys Team placed 2nd in an impressive showing led by Johnny Bareis ’15 of La Grange Park on his return from injury. The teams will now compete at the Wheaton Academy Sectional next Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Kress Creek Farms. 

Boys Soccer: The Varsity Boys Soccer Team defeated Chicago Hancock H.S. in its Regional Final game Saturday, October 26, by a score of 2 to 1. Nazareth fell behind early but came back strong in the 2nd half to claim victory and the Regional Championship.  The first goal was scored by Sam Abed ’14 of Palos Hills twelve minutes into the second half with an assist from Chris Tovar ’14 of Chicago.  Tovar followed four minutes later with a winning goal.  The defense and goalie David Caldwell ’15 of Stickney limited Hancock to one shot on goal in the second half.  The Roadrunners will play their Sectional game on Wednesday at Riverside-Brookfield against Little Village of Chicago at 6:30 p.m.

Girls Volleyball: Congratulations to the following Volleyball players -- Samantha Brown ’14 of Chicago, Emma Decker ’16 of La Grange, Linnea Roherson ’14 of Chicago, and Julia Saunders ’15 of La Grange. These young ladies were selected ESCC All-Conference players, as voted by the coaches. This is the first time that Nazareth has had more than two players selected. The Girls Volleyball team begins regional play Tuesday, October 29, 2013, against Montini.

Football: Nazareth Football completed their regular season with an impressive victory over Marian Catholic. The 7-2 Roadrunners will take on Brooks High School in the first round of the playoffs. The game will be played at Gately Stadium, 810 E 103rd St. on Saturday at 7 p.m. Eight football players have been named ESCC All-Conference players -- Robbie Brindley ’14 of Clarendon Hills (Strong Safety), Will Colmery ’14 of Western Springs (Defensive End), Jack Dolan ’14 of Clarendon Hills (Corner Back), Decxavier Kelly-Martin ’15 of Plainfield (Linebacker), Daniel Lockie ’14 of Western Springs (Center), Jack Shutak ’15 of Western Springs (Left Tackle), Michael Stec ’14 of Chicago (Defensive End) and Cyle Tucker ’14 of River Forest (Running Back).
