Nazareth Basketball Teams Start Seasons Strong

Both Boys and Girls basketball teams are off to a strong start at Nazareth Academy

In their opening game at the 16th annual John McBride Thanksgiving Classic, the Boys Varsity Basketball team overcame an early hot streak by St. Laurence to beat the Vikings by a score of 77-65. John Bonk ‘13 led all scorers with 23 points which included 8 for 8 from the free-throw line. Bonk also finished with a team high 7 rebounds and had 3 assists. As expected, Dan Kienzle ‘13 played tough defense and finished with 18 points. Alex Edwards ‘15 added 5 fourth-quarter points and dished out 4 assists. Kevin Connelly ’14, Tyler Jackson ‘15, George Kiernan ‘15, Tim Kuckailis ‘13, John Mazur ’14 and Evan McLaughlin ‘15 all added to the 73 pints. The Roadrunners take on Willowbrook tonight as they look to move to 2 and 0. 

Congratulations to the Freshman and Sophomore Boys Basketball teams on their tournament wins over Tinley Park. The freshmen won by 21 and the sophomores by 10! 

Congratulations as well to Nazareth’s 6-0 Girls Varsity Basketball team! They won their first game of the Riverside-Brookfield Thanksgiving Tournament on Monday,  defeating Ridgewood 47-30. Everyone contributed to the win. Seniors Kayla Freeman, with 14 points, and Molly Alberts, with 11 points, led the way. The Lady Roadrunners will continue play on Wednesday.
