Neighborhood Retailers Hope for Boost on Small Business Saturday

Several La Grange retailers are hoping for big results on Small Business Saturday, November 30, when they offer incentives to kick-start holiday spending on a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.

Founded in 2010, Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, wedged in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Studies show that last year, small business consumer spending on that day was estimated at $5.5 billion.

“There has been a significant increase in the number of our neighborhood businesses that are taking ownership of this day,” said Steve Jasinski, president of the La Grange Business Association and a realtor with Baird & Warner. “Our members are using this initiative to remind their customers that big box holiday shopping doesn’t help the local neighborhood. It doesn’t support the mom and pop businesses that keep our community thriving.”
