I have been working as the Sommelier on the floor on Friday and Saturday evenings over the past couple of weeks.  Getting to know our guests, and assisting with wine and food pairings.

So I thought over the next couple of weeks I would share some of those pairings that might want to try the the next time you dine with us.  Please do not hesitate to email me if I can assist you with any Wine and Food Pairing...... gregory@mecenatbistro.com

We have an amazing selection of Appetizers, and topping the list of both our guests and employees are Chef Ryan's Truffle Fries, his Curry Coconut Mussels, and there is also the Smoked Prosciutto Bruschetta just to highlight a few....... From one Foodie to another the entire selection of Appetizers will please any palate....

For me however it is the Artisanal Cheese Plate, go figure being a born and raised Cheesehead that loves cheese......

Being that this is seasonal selection of cheeses, served with homemade jams, spiced nuts, artisanal flatbread crakers, and charcutiere.  Chef Ryan selects only the freshest ingredients for his seasonal jams, and  charcutiere to highlight the current selection of cheeses.  

The Sommelier in me immediately wants a glass of; well a bottle of bubbles ..... a beautifully, crisp refreshing brut champagne like either one that we offer on the wine list here at Mecenat Bistro. 

First there is the Yellow Label Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Reims, France; a blend of predominately Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, with a touch of Pinot Meunier resulting in a perfect blend that is Champagne.

Then there is the Pierre Delize, Montagny-Les Beaune (Burgundy) France; a Sparkling Brut that is a Blanc de Blancs; telling you it is a White of Whites..... 100% Chardonnay.

You may wonder why I have selected a Champagne / Sparkling wine to pair with the Artisanal Cheese Plate.  It is because that with each sip the flavors in the glass bring out the richness, creaminess, allowing the food to take center stage, but it is the bubbles that cleanse your palate allowing you to enjoy and savor each and every bit as much as the first......

Not in the mood for Champagne/Sparkling Wine I would also suggest either the Pouilly-Fuisse, Domaine Du Roure. Burgundy, France with it light apple and citrus notes that also pairing perfectly with this appetizer; and if you are looking for something on the fruitier side try the Patton Valley Vineyard Rose, Willamette Valley, Oregon with its hints of cherries, but still light enough that it still allows the food to take center stage.........
