Living Green Festival and Electronics Recycling Drive will take place tomorrow, May 19 from 9 am to 1 pm at Lyons Township High School, South Campus (4900 Willow Springs Road in Western Springs. The event, organized by the West Suburban Chamber of COmmerce and Industry Foundation, is free to the community. It is run by more than 50 area volunteers, including Lyons Township staff and students. It is being co-hosted by some of the western suburb’s most important organizations, including the Brookfield Zoo and the Morton Arboretum. They, with 2 dozen other environmental experts will provide free food, coffee, entertainment, and learning opportunities to the public on Saturday morning. In addition, we have dozens of local agencies – including Working Bikes, Go Green LaGrange, and Community Nurse Association -- collecting recyclables. For seven years, this partner event with Lyons Township High School has been the largest electronics recycling drive in the western suburbs. This year’s added opportunities include the recycling of batteries, textiles, eyeglasses, cork, and metal AND a full Living Green Festival, made up of 25 exhibitors, including Whole Foods, prasino-LaGrange, and the Illinois Extension Project’s Master Gardner Program.

Did I mention the zoo will have live animals on-site from 10-11:30 am? Bring the family and enjoy a beautiful Saturday that doubles as a gift to your environment!
