Flag Ceremony - Retiring Colors with Dignity

La Grange, IL, June 14, 2012:  U.S. flags that once flew in front of our homes are beginning to illustrate signs of wear - the white stars and stripes are turning gray and the red and navy colors are fading from days of exposure to the blazing sun.  It is time to take inventory of our U.S. flags; if they are tattered or worn you most likely dropped them
off at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr., American Legion Post 1941.

“A Flag may be a flimsy bit of printed gauze, or a beautiful banner of finest silk. Its intrinsic value may be trifling or great; but its real value is beyond price, for it is a precious symbol of all that we and our comrades have worked for and lived for, and died for a free Nation of free men, true to the faith of the past, devoted to the ideals and practice of Justice, Freedom and Democracy. “

In 1949, President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 as National Flag Day. Veterans and volunteers will honor the colors on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 6:30 pm, where they will dispose of
them in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code.
