Community Corner

Help homeless and low-income veterans

The La Grange American Legion Auxiliary is asking the community to help them provide basic clothing and household supplies to low-income and homeless veterans and will be accepting donations on Sunday, November 18, from 8 am until 12 noon at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr., American Legion Post in La Grange.

Items needed include new underwear (boxers or briefs) for men and t-shirts, white socks, sweatpants, and sweatshirts for both men and women in all adult sizes, but especially sizes medium through 3XL. Also needed are travel-sized containers of shampoo and conditioner, hand and body lotions, body wash, shaving cream and disposable razors, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, and alcohol-free mouthwash.

Donations of basic household cleaning and kitchen supplies are also needed to fill “housewarming baskets” for formerly homeless veterans participating in the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Program at Hines VA Hospital, which helps veterans find appropriate permanent housing in the community. Donations of new household items or store gift cards that can be used to purchase what is needed are requested.
