Coyote Map: Where Have You Seen Them around La Grange?

We asked readers where they've spotted coyotes around La Grange, Western Springs and other nearby neighborhoods. Got a sighting to add? Tell us in the comments.

Cook County's coyote population is in the low thousands, according to the forest preserve.

But while there certainly aren't that many living right here in La Grange, Patch readers report seeing them all over the place, from chasing bunnies near 6th and Plainfield to running after dogs around 31st and Wolf.

We've plotted coyote sightings from readers on the interactive map above. If you've spotted one in the area, let me know in the comments and I'll add it to the map.

  • Take a moment to appreciate what the forest preserve calls "this beautiful and elusive animal." Keep in mind that coyotes are not generally a threat to people. Small dogs? Now that's another story.
  • If the coyote comes toward you, yell, wave your arms or throw something at it. Most will run away.
  • If the coyote doesn't run away and you feel it poses a danger, call 911.
