FINAL PUBLIC HEARING FOR MEMORIAL PARK ANNOUNCED

The Community Park District announces the last in a series of public hearings for improvements proposed in its flag ship park. The hearing, beginning at 6:30 P.M on Monday, June 17th will give residents an opportunity to make comment an $800,000 investment being planned at Memorial Park. The hearing is held in room 101 of the Recreation Center, 1501 Barnsdale Road. Plans to improve the aging Memorial Park began in 2011 as the Park District Board was developing its master plan for all park locations. The final proposed plan features a new family sized shelter with energy saving indoor restrooms, a new water/sand playground, new action playground equipment and a reconfigured area for small fairs and festivals. The Community Park District will submit a request for 50% funding to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources later this month. If successful, the Park District would receive a $400,000 reimbursement from the Open Space Land and Development Fund (OSLAD). Construction is hoped to begin in late 2014. Those unable to attend the June 17 public hearing are encouraged to contact Park District Executive Director Roy Cripe at 708-354-4580 or rcripe@communityparkdistrict.org for a detailed explanation of the plan.
