LaGrange Park Veterans Memorial needs to become a reality !

The LaGrange Park Veterans' Memorial shall become the gathering place for individuals or groups to offer quiet reflection or joyous appreciation.

A long awaited and much anticipated endeavor to honor those who served in the military is underway in LaGrange Park- and gathering momentum. The endeavor is to honor the military veterans of LaGrange Park, the veterans of our families and the memories of our service “buddies”.  The endeavor I write about is the Veterans’ Memorial project. This project is the vision of Lagrange Park resident Ray Wielgos and supported by the Community Park District of LaGrange Park.

“Why should there be another Memorial?” is a question presented to me.  And without hesitation, my reply is “Why Not?”  I am of the opinion that every town across this incredibly blessed country of ours should have, within a prominent location, some permanent recognition for those who have, are and will serve in America’s militaries. It is critically important for all of our residents to be reminded that our precious freedoms, our cultures, our manner of life- have been paid for by the service of our veterans. And it shall continue to be.

The Veterans’ Memorial will be located at the North East corner of Oak and Sherwood, across from the Jewel grocery and the Fifth/Third Bank. The project is scheduled for completion in time for the Armed Forces Day Celebration, May 17, 2014.

Now, if you, the reader, wish to honor the memory of a family member or a military “buddy” or to show appreciation of a loved one currently serving America- then this Memorial is for you! An architect’s rendition of the Memorial is attached. Also attached are the forms necessary for your donation.

I intend to honor the service of my father (Army) and my father in law (Navy)who were both WW II veterans, for the memory of those I served with in Viet Nam ( 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ) and for all the men and women veterans who have served, are serving and will serve. Now is the opportune time dear reader.
