What's Going in the Old Borders Building?

Smashburger, Great Clips and ATI Physical Therapy are already open. What else is in store?

More new businesses are filling the building previously occupied by Borders Books, which closed in September 2011.

The building, located at La Grange Road and Hillgrove Avenue, was divided into several smaller spots for retail, dining and services.

Here's the running list of what's opened and what else is expected to move in later:

ATI Physical Therapy

The clinic opened March 20 on the second floor of the building. Read more about it here.

AT&T

The La Grange location, currently located across the street next to Caribou Coffee and Chipotle, will move to the corner location in the Borders building and have the most space.

La Grange community development director said AT&T is looking to make the store similar to its flagship location on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, which focuses on customer engagement and interactivity, much like an Apple store.

Massage Envy

Currently located in Garden Market in Western Springs, Massage Envy plans to move to the Borders building in spring 2013, Benjamin said. It will occupy a space on the second floor, which is currently under construction.

Orange Leaf Yogurt

"Frozen yogurt is big right now. There's a frozen yogurt war," Benjamin said. According to the Orange Leaf website, a La Grange location is planned soon for Unit D of the Border building, which is on the first floor of the south side.

It would join Forever Yogurt, which is opening at 71 S. La Grange Rd., and the already open Red Mango in that "frozen yogurt war."

TBD

There's still another vacant space in the the building, and Benjamin said it could be filled with office space. But he said he's not sure what will end up filling the spot.
