Vintage Home Decor Shop Moves to La Grange

Nest Vintage Modern, which started as an online business and later opened a shop in Brookfield, has moved into the former Monday's Child location in La Grange.

After three years as an online business and one year in Brookfield, a vintage shop is moving to La Grange.

Nest Vintage Modern opened May 4 at 26 S. La Grange Road, filling the spot vacated by Monday's Child.

The store specializes in locally procured goods, including home furnishings and decor from the early 1900s through the mid-1960s.

"We prefer to deal with other small businesses whenever we can. It’s a major part of our core values as a business," owner Alana Waters-Piper said. “As a result, we’ve developed not only a very special collection of products, but some great friendships. Our vendors feel like family to us.”

Most pieces in the shop have been revived and refinished by Waters-Piper and co-owner Sarah Emmick.

“A stroll through Nest frequently evokes comments like, ‘Oh! My grandmother had one of these!’ or ‘I haven’t seen one of those since I was a child.’ Or even, ‘I used to own those! They’re vintage now?’" Emmick said.

The store has been profiled on Martha Stewart Radio and has a huge Facebook following already, with more than 22,000 fans. In addition to vintage home decor, the shop also offers giftware, bath and body goods, accessories and jewelry.

Nest Vintage Modern also sells the Annie Sloan line of decorative Chalk Paint and products and will offer furniture painting classes by certified Annie Sloan instructors at the new La Grange location.

The store is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The vintage furniture and paints are only available in the store, but most other items can still be purchased in the online store
