Summer Cuts in La Grange

Floydd's 66 offers shaves, classic cuts and wild styles—just what this editor has been looking for in a new summer look.

On one of the few really hot days we've had so far this summer, I decided that I was sick of being weighed down—by the heat, yes, but also by my unruly haircut.

In the busy life of an editor for Patch, finding time for a haircut doesn't always top the list of priorities. However, the time had come. The longer I waited the shaggier it was getting.

So, I swung into La Grange's newest barbershop, , for a quick cut—and quick was what I got! I was in an out in 30 minutes.

At the front desk I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and told to take a seat. Floyd's definitely has what you would call a rock and roll aesthetic—everything from rock to hip hop bounces from the stereo and the walls are covered in band posters. When my name was called, I was introduced to store manager and hair artist, Michelle Z.

"What are you thinking you'd like to do today?" She asked.

"Get rid of it," I replied. "Trim it all the way back."

Floyd's 99 throws in a few nice features that are a mix between your typical salon and barbershop: a hot towel on the face while you get shampooed and a neck and shoulder massage to finish up the appointment.

While I was getting my locks clipped, I was able to ask Michelle a few questions about what La Grange residents were looking for in a hair cut and style.

According to Michelle, hair coloring and highlights (starting at $55) have been very popular among La Grange folks, as were some of the other Floyd's staples like a straight-razor shave ($24).

Having come from the Floyd's 99 store in Chicago's trendy Wicker Park neighborhood, Michelle said she was used to getting some outragous hairdo requests—some of which younger kids are sporting around downtown La Grange as well.

"I've done a few mohawks," Michelle said. "A lot of the younger kids are into those."

Did I get some blue hair dye and liberty spikes put in at Floyd's during my visit? Not this time at least. I just wanted it all off my neck.

But, what I did get was a nice, classic haircut and good service. Plus, I was in and out in no time at all—and for an editor on the go, that's a big selling point.
