Painted Pets at Bottle & Bottega Benefits Area Cat, Ferret Shelters

I spent a nice Sunday afternoon at Bottle & Bottega in La Grange, painting a photo of my pet parakeet while others joined in to benefit St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines and the Greater Chicago Ferret Association.

I stopped into Bottle & Bottega in La Grange for the first time on Sunday and decided to stick around for the event going on at the time, having a blast and learning about painting.

That's what Bottle & Bottega does best—combine art classes with a fun atmosphere, including BYOB. Sunday's event, Paint Fur Paws, benefitted St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines and the Greater Chicago Ferret Association. Participants brought photos of their pets and painted a picture of them.

The groups provide shelter and care to homeless cats and ferrets, as well as adoption services.

I didn't come prepared with a printout of my pet parakeet, R2D2, but I fortunately carry about a thousand photos of him on my phone. So I put on an apron and got to work.

People walked around throughout the event to share tips on mixing colors, layering and lots more. This was my first time painting, probably since high school, but it was very therapeutic and I'm happy with how the painting turned out.
