Glitz and Glamour in Downtown La Grange

New La Grange boutique, Glamour, opens downtown in an explosion of glitter and glam.

Looking to glamorize your life?

A new shop in downtown La Grange is there to help. While dear old mom might be a little old for most of the store's wares, your younger Justin Bieber and Glee fans will surely rejoice.

Brightly colored purses, jewelry, glitter makeup and pink feather boas line the walls of La Grange's newest downtown boutique, , 20 E. Burlington Ave., which opened on June 4 to a packed store, thanks to a little help from the La Grange Pet Parade.

"It was pretty swamped, but now it's settled down," said owner Maritza Thompson.

Thompson and her business partner, Kefah Suhail, said they decided to open their store in downtown La Grange because of a love for the area. After taking a look around downtown, they didn't seem many options in boutiques for young girls.

"We figured a cool shop for younger kids would be nice," Suhail said. "We're open to all ages, but we're focused on young girls and teens."

Glamour has no shortage of gift ideas and fun things for young girls—stocking many, many varieties of glitter shades, glitter lip gloss, glitter mascara—just pick something and put glitter in front of it.

The two have a lot of experience working with younger kids too. Both owners are teachers at W.W. Walker Elementary School in Bedford Park.

"We asked our students what types of items they would want to shop for," Thompson said. "They said makeup!"

Glamour, of course, stocks plenty of that, but also has family movies for sale and books geared toward young adults.

In addition to the items they have in stock, the store has big plans for fun activities going forward.

"We're going to be starting a class on jewelry-making probably in July," Thompson said. "We're going to have karaoke nights too."

Break out your favorite Justin Bieber  tunes and warm up those vocal chords, La Grange. And when it's time to hit the stage, Glamour will have just what you need to accessorize.
