Competitive Foot Closing After 39 Years

The Competitive Foot, advertised on its website as the "first athletic shoe store in Illinois," will close at the end of July after 39 years in town.

Proprietors Tim and Tyna Eggert, who opened the store in 1974, will "semi-retire," according to a newsletter sent by the Western Springs Business Association. That means this location is closing, but the one in Oak Park will remain open.

“It’s bittersweet for our family,” their daughter, Tracy Fussaro, said in the newsletter. “We’ve had many, many great years in Western Springs. But my parents are also looking forward to making their lives a little easier with only one store.”

The Western Springs location will close July 31. The Oak Park location, opened in 1977, is located at 102 N. Marion St.

Fussaro added in the newsletter that her parents “are so thankful for all the support from customers, families, and the community."
