"Hour Town" La Grange Clock Auction

“HOUR TOWN LA GRANGE” CLOCKS AUCTIONED TO HIGHEST BIDDERS

La Grange, IL – The six-foot-tall whimsical clocks adorning the sidewalks of La Grange as part of a summer art exhibit are approaching their final hour and will be auctioned for charity on Friday, September 7.

Bidders and browsers can rock around the clocks to tunes from DJ Gianna Hardt, hula hoop contests, and games when the 60 clocks are displayed on the front lawn of Village Hall beginning at 5PM. Bites from local restaurants, frozen treats from Tate’s Ice Cream and a cash bar will be available. The live auction begins at 7PM. In the case of rain, the event will take place in the parking garage behind the La Grange Village Hall.

The eye-catching art exhibit, called “Hour Town La Grange,” is presented by the La Grange Business Association to highlight the strength of the local business community and display the creative talent of local artists. Local businesses sponsored the clocks and each artist selected his or her own theme, ranging from an Elvis-inspired clock, to a clock with gears and pendulums, to a nursery rhyme clock attached to a giant dish and spoon.

Artists will complete any minor touch ups to clocks prior to the auction. Clocks will be sold with new mechanisms and hands.

The public can vote for their favorite clock online at www.lgbaclocks@weebly.com and the top vote getter will receive the People’s Choice Award.

Exhibit sponsors of Hour Town La Grange are the Village of La Grange, Vanguard Medical Group and Douglas Auto Body, as well as the various businesses which sponsored a clock.

Artists have “hidden” designs in some of the clocks; a walking map with scavenger hunt is currently available with a $100 prize in local gift certificates awarded for one correctly completed form selected in a drawing.

Maps are available in the lobby of Vanguard Medical Group at 47 S. Sixth Street, at La Grange Village Hall, at various merchants, and online.

The La Grange Business Association is a consortium of downtown businesses, services and non-profit organizations that strive to energize and enhance the local business climate through events, networking and advocacy.
