Shaving My Head: St. Baldrick's Fundraiser Returning to Palmer Place

Patch editor Michael Sewall is joining others to get his head shaved and raise money for childhood cancer research. Find out how to donate and get more details about the event, which is March 14.

After a successful first year, St. Baldrick's is returning to Palmer Place in La Grange to help raise money for childhood cancer research.

And Patch is getting in on the action. I'll get my head shaved if you help me reach Team La Grange Patch's $1,000 fundraising goal.

The event, sponsored by Floyd's 99 Barbershop and Palmer Place, starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14 at Palmer's, 56 S. La Grange Road. The local firefighters union also has a team participating, among others.

Now, March 14 is my birthday and I had planned to go to Palmer's for dinner with friends and family. How perfect when I realized I could also get my head shaved for a good cause!

I participated in St. Baldrick's last year when I was editing the New Lenox Patch site. Watch video of me getting my head shaved then.

But this year I want to raise more money than last time. You couldn't give me a better birthday present than to donate to Team La Grange Patch!

Make a donation to Patch's St. Baldrick's team. (Make a donation and you can get a Patch tote bag!)

Last year the event raised more than $24,000. As of Monday afternoon, the event raised about $22,000, well past its $20,000 goal.

The event also serves as a kickoff to Palmer Place's annual St. Patrick's Day festivities. There will be a silent auction during the St. Baldrick's event and live music throughout the night. The "world famous" Shannon Rover's Irish Bagpipe Band starts at 5 p.m., followed by the Trailer Park Twisters at 5:30 p.m. That band features Stonegrove Guitar owner Paul Cicciarelli.

Owner Steve Palmer also said the restaurant has a fundraiser that night for the St. Francis food pantry: mention the food pantry and 15 percent of the bill will go toward feeding hungry families.
