This is the second time that the village was honored by CHICAGO Magazine. In 2009, LaGrange was named “Best Downtown.
“Metra trains shooting west from Union Station arrive here in 25 minutes, and most of the village amenities—restaurants, high-end shops, a historic movie house are within a half-mile stroll of the station,” said Ian Spula, CHICAGO magazine’s reporter who wrote the story.
In putting together its list, CHICAGO MAGAZINE weighed such factors as safety, schools, downtown business districts, and ease of transportation to downtown Chicago. The magazine also looked at “hard to define” qualities, like vibrancy and beauty, such as leafy streets and architecture.
“Our historic district, quality school system, easy transportation, diverse shopping
district, low crime, all add up to a first-rate place to live outside of Chicago,” Village President Tom Livingston said in written statement. “Our community’s goal is to be the ‘Best’ everyday in the eyes of residents, business owners and visitors to our village.”
Other suburbs that made CHICAGO Magazine’s Top 12 list included Barrington, Northbrook, Orland Park, Hinsdale, Wheaton, Highland Park, Lake Bluff and Geneva.
CHICAGO Magazine also compiled a list of Chicago’s best neighborhoods.
