Northwestern College Appoints Janet H. Davis, PhD, RN Dean of the Violet L. Schumacher School of Nursing

[Bridgeview, IL] – Northwestern College President Lawrence Schumacher announced the appointment of Janet H. Davis, PhD., R.N. as Dean of the Violet L. Schumacher School of Nursing. Dr. Davis comes to Northwestern College most recently from Robert Morris University where she was the Founding Dean of their College of Nursing and Health Studies. The Violet L. Schumacher School of Nursing opened in the fall of 2010 and has graduated two classes of nurses to date, with this year’s incoming class being double the size of the 2010 incoming class.

Dr. Davis has accumulated numerous accomplishments during her distinguished career in higher education. She has held the roles of Faculty, Academic Dean, Director of Training & Instructional Design, Graduate Faculty, Director of the Center for Learning Excellence, and Director of Academic Affairs Programs. These roles were performed at a number of prominent institutions throughout the Chicagoland and Midwest area including Walden University, the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing, West Suburban College of Nursing-Concordia University, and Rush University. In the course of these roles she has managed collegial relationships with over one hundred clinical affiliations in a variety of settings.

Dr. Davis is an accomplished author and co-author having published research abstracts, thirty articles, a book, and chapters in two additional books. She has been a frequent lecturer at local, state and national nursing and healthcare organizations as well as at local hospitals and faculty workshops. Her scholarly writing and lectures have covered a vast array of topics such as animal-facilitated therapy, career development and nursing education innovations.

In addition, Dr. Davis has spearheaded the degree authority, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools/Higher Learning Commission (NCA/HLC) change request process and specialty accreditation processes for multi-campus undergraduate and graduate health professions programs. She is a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Consultant Evaluator and has been a programmatic accreditor for three specialty groups.

Dr. Davis earned her BSN at Georgetown University, her MS in Maternal Child Nursing from Boston University, and her PhD in Educational Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. Most recently she earned her MBA in Entrepreneurship Strategic Management from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Davis is a 37 year resident of Chicago’s Northwest Side where she resides with her husband Dan. They have two adult daughters.
