Natural Birth Center open house Sept. 15

La Grange – Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital invites the community to view its new Natural Birth Center during an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.

The hospital’s new low-intervention Natural Birth Center is set to open Sept. 1. The center is in the process of becoming the first Accredited Birth Center in Illinois.

Certified nurse midwives and licensed health care practitioners will work with the hospital’s Labor and Delivery nurses and OB/GYNs to provide service at the new center. This will allow mothers to plan for a natural childbirth, with the added security of an adjacent fully staffed hospital Birth Center.

If an epidural is requested or if the practitioner decides intervention is necessary, the labor process can be seamlessly transferred to a nearby suite, saving valuable time and eliminating costs associated with ambulance transportation.

“We’re excited to be opening the new Natural Birth Center and look forward to being able to accommodate mothers who are looking for a more intimate delivery experience,” said Kristin Yates, head nurse in the Natural Birth Center.

The Natural Birth Center will house two birthing suites. Each suite is equipped with a queen-sized bed, semi-permanent soft plastic hydrotherapy tub, rocking chair, beanbag chair, flat-panel television, refrigerator, microwave, and smartphone docking station.

Immediately outside of the suites is a large tranquility room, designed to encourage mobility and relaxation during labor.

Board-Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Steven Daube of Hinsdale and his team of certified nurse midwives at Natural Birth Midwives, a division of OMG Women’s Healthcare, have partnered with Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital on the planning and development of the Natural Birth Center. Daube has already scheduled a delivery in the center in mid-September.

Daube agrees with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, who say that hospitals and birth centers are the safest places for mothers to give birth.

“The new Adventist LaGrange Natural Birth Center provides the atmosphere of home with the safety of backup medical help if needed,” Daube said. “The only thing you'll be attached to is your baby. It's a great addition to the childbirth options available to women in Illinois."

The Natural Birth Center will be open to all expectant mothers who meet requirements for low-intervention birth.
