Legacy Guild event nets $80,000+ for scholarship program

More than 350 supporters packed Fitzgerald's Nightclub in Berwyn on Saturday, March 8, and raised a net total of more than $80,000 for the Legacy Guild Scholars program to provide college scholarships for students in Lyons Township District 204 who have lost a parent.

The event included silent and live auctions, entertainment by Libido Funk Circus and an accompanying acrobat and juggling act.

First National Bank of La Grange was the lead sponsor of the event.

"We nearly doubled what we raised last year for these young men and women,” said La Grange resident Ed Carr, the chairman of the spring event.  "Community members in Lyons Township District 204 continue to send a strong message to the families we are supporting that haven’t forgotten their loved ones, and we’re going to support their children.  We are blown away by the outpouring of generosity."

In May, the second group of Legacy Guild Scholars will be announced.

The Legacy Guild was formed in 2012 by a group of men from La Grange and surrounding areas drawn together after a cluster of sudden and unexpected deaths of some great friends and neighbors. The Guild formed within weeks of these tragic events to offer support to each other and to transcend our grief and sorrow. Our support group is Christian-based and meets regularly to discuss important issues, including how to be a better father, husband, son, brother, neighbor and friend. The Legacy Guild Scholars program developed as an extension of these regular meetings.
