La Grange Babe Ruth 16-year-olds Stars win tourney

Thanks to the pitching and powerful hitting of Braedon Belcher, the 16-year-old All-Stars from La Grange Babe Ruth Baseball won the five-team Downers Grove Invitational Tournament on July 28.

Belcher won two games in two days for La Grange, beating Western Conference on July 27 and beating Downers Grove in the clincher on July 28.

La Grange lost the first game of the tourney and had to win five in a row to win the title.

Manger Tim Taylor called Belcher "the horse" for good reason, as he pitched two complete games in two days, and also started the first game on July 25, the team's only loss.

Other players who homered in the series were Brett Nicholson, Dan Cueller, Ben Gawthrop and Kevin Karpinski, whose three-run bomb in the title game clinched the win.
