Community Corner

7th Annual "Just Irish Enough" Event benefiting the St. Baldrick's Foundation

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is an organization that funds research for children with cancer.  The LaGrange Park “Just Irish Enough” Parade was started in 2008 by two residents of LaGrange Park.  The goal was to promote a sense of community and bring others together.  The result was a 6 block parade and approximately 350 people.  Food was served and $300 was raised.  In the last 6 years, this event has raised over $350,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and we had over 200 shavees last year.  This event has grown to over 1000 people annually.

Since the “Just Irish Enough” event was started, two of the elementary schools in LaGrange Park have had children diagnosed with cancer.  One of those children passed away in 2011 at 8 years old.  As devastating as it was for this community, the local schools are working together and have formed teams to raise money for St. Baldrick’s.  Many children, both boys and girls of all ages, are shaving their heads in solidarity for this wonderful cause.  We will also be collecting pony tails to be sent to the Children With Hair Loss program.

Due to the rapid growth of the "Just Irish Enough" event in the last 6 years, it is now a 2-day event.

*Part 1 will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the MAX McCook where the St. Baldrick’s benefit and head shaving will take place.  This is a family event.  There will be inflatables for the kids to play on, a DJ, and snacks and beverages available for purchase.

*Part 2 will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2014 on the 600 block of Newberry in LaGrange Park.  This is a block party where you can bring your own cooler and food and baked goods will be available for purchase.

On behalf of the “Just Irish Enough” committee, I am inviting you to attend this fantastic event, especially Friday night.

I have included a link to the St. Baldrick’s website for this event at the MAX McCook and attached a flyer with additional information.
