Quarry Operations Suspended; Hanson, Village Officials to Discuss Mining Practices

Operations at Hanson quarry in McCook have been suspended until village officials from surrounding areas meet with quarry officials to discuss the circumstances of the Nov. 4 blast.

Hanson Material Service in McCook has suspended all Quarry operations while a Nov. 4 blast that shook the western suburbs is investigated, according to a message posted on the Village of La Grange website.

The village is planning to meet early next week with quarry officials to discuss the circumstances surrounding the blast and results of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ investigation into the event, which were released Wednesday.

Village and quarry officials will also discuss what changes in mining practices the quarry is willing to commit to, "in order to never repeat the two occurrences we experienced in the past three years," the message reads.
